Album Review - BlakRoc - BlakRoc

For those of you living under a BlakRoc, the band BlakRoc is the Black Keys with Mos Def and other hip hop MCs. This is a hip hop album, nothing more nothing less. Yes, you have Dan and Patrick in the background. Their sound is evident. But they don't make the record. It's nothing like anything the Keys have done in the past. I thank my lucky stars that Mos Def was involved here.

There's not a whole lot say about it. It's not your typical hip hop effort, you're not going to hear it at the clubs, not on the radio waves, not in your teenage neighbor's car stereo either. The best tracks are Ain't Nothing Like You, Dollaz & Sense and Hard Times. If you are a Black Keys fan and don't appreciate hip hop, you will hate this album and say Dan and Patrick sold out. If you happen to enjoy both, you'll think this is a good side project and hope that is all it is. With Dan doing this and his solo effort, I am yearning for more from the Black Keys. Maybe because I just listened to the Lolla 08 Black Keys show? Rumor is the new album will come out in March 2010. Just in time for my Easter basket.
